Religious Jews of the first century had visual indicators to let everyone know that they followed God. Jesus declares that our love for each other is what shows the world we follow him.

Jesus told Pilate that his kingdom is a new and different kind of kingdom, whose citizens are different from the rest of the world.

Even without the resurrection, Christ’s death was a triumph. The cross was a new kind of victory, whereby the forces of evil suffered a humiliating defeat.
